Went here for a birthday meal, given a lovely seat by the window. Attentive and knowledgeable staff, nice champagne and amazing menu. Not cheap but you get what you pay for in the best fillet steak I have ever had, cooked to perfection!Fantastic for a special occasion but book in advance.

  2. Great English Restaurant

    04/05/2011 by

This place is a gem. Great food, a lot of it is locally sourced and then cooked with a modern twist. The atmosphere is great, as whilst it is quite small with a number of tables you don't feel packed in and you never feel rushed. I would highly recommend this place, but be warned you have to book in the evening!

Excellent restaurant in the centre of Caversham.Have been a couple of times and never been disappointed by the quality of the food - locally sourced, slightly different and tasty! The upstairs restaurant is intimate and welcoming with a small, funky private dining room downstairs for a more cosy options with a group of friends.Staff are very friendly and know their stuff. It's not cheap, but value for what you get - well worth a visit!

I went here for my birthday and it really is good. The food is superb and as a birthday treat I got given home-made fudge, it was amazing!

  3. Best in town

I love the way My La Carte have retained all the character of the buildings previous incarnation as the CO-OP Butchers I think. Large shop front windows and awnings really give the place bags of charm. Once you get inside, this place has one of the best menus in Reading, modern-ish British food, done really well and at a pretty good price. On our last visit they spotted me and my finance (at the time) coming out of the florists opposite, one of the waiters asked why and we said we were getting married soon , in between our main and desert he had the chef prepare us an extra decorative plate with "Congratulations" written in chocolate, centred around a sorbet, dead nice of them. It made our day. Can't speak highly enough of the place, try the set lunch menu first, then you can get some ideas for the evening al a carte. enjoy

  1. One of the best in the area

    04/11/2010 by

This is a very unique restaurant where the menu is compiled of fine british dishes made with carefully sourced seasonal, local, produce. The staff are friendly and the small cozy décor is welcoming, but it is the food itself that makes this an exceptional dining experience! The place is usually packed with good reason.I highly recommend the strawberry cheesecake where you will be presented with a shot of champagne & strawberry puree, a light strawberry cheesecake topped with a sprinkle of popping candy! A lovely nostalgic nod towards a kids favourite without compromising on taste or presentation, top marks!

My a la carte is a moden restaurant which combines the best of British produce with a French flair. It stays true to its inspirations with up to date seasonal menu's produced by a team of very passionate chefs. The restaurant is located in the centre of Caversham, and the cosy space only adds to any experience.

  1. We are addicted!

    10/09/2010 by

I have been to Mya Lacarte a number of times now and have loved every moment we have been there.I booked in for our 1 year anniversary and at the end of the meal the staff brought a celebratory desert for free with "happy Anniversary" written in chocolate. That sums up how great the place is for me.The staff are great, they are friendly and good to chat to without intruding in your conversation and you get the feeling they really care about the restaurant and their customers. We loved the experience so much that we recently went back for the £80 tasting menu. We went as a group and had a great time trying all the dishes (and wine of course).Food is always great as are the staff. If you live in the area you would be mad not to check it out.

  2. Delicious food, great ambience

    18/08/2010 by

I would really recommend this place. A group of us went on a Wednesday evening and all picked from the set priced menu. My fish was simply cooked but tasted fantastic, and the desert selection was good too. My only slight complaint would be that the veggie option was literally just grilled vegetables and was really more of a starter than a main. The service was friendly but not over the top, and the overall ambience very nice.

  3. Local Gem

    01/09/2008 by

Mya Lacarte is a small, family run business in Caversham with the ethos of sourcing all their food from local community and never outside of the UK. I find this is a real bonus for the restaurant given the emphasis for all of us to reduce our carbon footprint. Plus the food is amazing! My partner and myself went for the Sunday Roast and had beautifully tender beef that just melted in the mouth. It?s a small restaurant and the dining is intimate. Service was from one of the owners and was perfectly attentive. It wont be long before I am back here!

  1. Fantastic local restaurant

    22/08/2008 by

Mya Lacarte make a real effort to produce dishes that are special and just a little bit different from local produce - and it works. The food is tasty and special and wonderfully cooked. This has to be the best restaurant in Caversham.

  2. Wonderful British place

    05/06/2008 by

So happy to find this place in out of the way Caversham. We happened upon it when visiting another restaurant in Caversham and was amazed to find out it had been there for a year. The restaurant has a really Brighton-esque feel to it, with a smart but laid back vibe. The decor is in muted shades of green with dark wood tables. One of the owners (Matthew. The name Mya is a mix of his name and Yasmin, his sister the chef) is an experienced hand from London Street Brasserie in the centre of Reading (and it was nice to be recognised when we arrived - a nice touch). Now, on to the food. The food is all British, with as much sourced locally as possible. The menu changes seasonally (the night we were there the broccoli was off and was replaced by new season asparagus) and they promise that 80% of waste is recycled. So all good. Finally the food is delicious. I had the asparagus starter, with hollandaise sauce and boiled egg, then I the fillet steak with a peppery potato rosti, braised shallots with a delicious sticky sweet gravy. And finally a light-as-a-feather treacle tart with a hint of lemon, vanilla ice cream and cream. It was all beautifully done. The only complaint I could make is that my steak was medium rare rather than rare, but it was such a delicious cut that it was hard to care.Service is excellent - friendly and informal with just the right amount of presence that is so hard to get right.I shall be returning later this month for the British Tasting Night. I can't wait.

  3. Extraordinary British restaurant

    20/10/2007 by

At last, a fresh, new and vibrant restaurant in the centre of Caversham! The food is wonderful, which is locally sourced and very well cooked. Its a privately owned restaurant, which is very apparent judging by the people who occupy it and the very professional and friendly staff who work there. Not the cheapest, but as soon as you sample the food you understand why. I had the spiced pumpkin and butternut squash soup to start, then the Hampshire beef fillet on a peppered potato cake. The fillet melted in the mouth. I would go close to saying that it was probably the best bit of beef i've sampled! Would recommend this place to anyone!
