HORRENDOUS EXPERIENCE!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

HORRENDOUS EXPERIENCE!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!I visited Koi Kabin at the start of September 2012 to purchase two goldfish. Our initial experience was good; the owner seemed knowledgeable and friendly. To say this is where the experience soured would be a massive understatement. When selecting the fish I noticed that several fish in the holding tank had white nodules on their fins &/or tails. I (very naively I admit) trusted that their wasn't any issue with this and purchased one orange fish with a small white nodule on its fin and one black fish with nothing on it. The price was reasonable and we happily went on our way to take the fish back to our garden pond in Leeds. After looking at the fish two weeks later I realised that the small white nodule had begun to grow and didn't look so innocent anymore. I then called the shop and initially spoke to a lady, informing her what had happened and that I needed some assistance in curing the problem. Her response was very defensive and she said that she couldn't provide any help or advice. She passed me over to the man I originally dealt with after saying that this was nothing to do with them. This was upsetting as I had not complained and was extremely patient. Working within retail myself I understand that it is never constructive to jump straight down someones throat without giving the chance to assist. When I was passed to the man I explained the siuation and said that I don't wish for a refund or to return the fish; simply that I would like some information on how to cure the fish. I also informed him, knowing what I then knew, that there were other fish in his holding tank that were effected. He quickly denied that he would ever sell any fish with any issues and wouldn't 'miss' spotting any diseases. I said that he must have missed it because it was there to which he replied "you need general treatment, but it's your problem, not mine". This was extremely dissapointing as I have several healthy fish in the pond that have been there for years without any issue. Not only this but the growth was clearly there previously for anybody with knowledge of disease to notice.I went to a garden centre in Rothwell and purchased Medifin to treat what was now diagnosed as fungul infection. Soon after I noticed that the fungal growth had appeared on the second black fish. I carried on with the treatment as directed but to no avail, the growth had continued to spread. I called Koi Kabin and said that I was desperate for help. The man said that it was nothing to do with him and hung up the phone. I spoke with a recommended specialist (not Koi Kabin!) who told me that as it was now (October 19th) very cold in the water the treatment would not take effect on the fish and that they must be moved to a wamer place in a hospital tank. It was at this point that I headed out to purchase a large tank, filter and more treatment. The fish took a good while to catch but eventually I caught the first and proceeded to set the course of treatment in controlled conditions. At first the fungal growth receeded but it then became apparant that the fin had begun to rot beneath the infection. I subsequently began a course of treatment for fin and fungal rot and monitored the conditions ever more closely. Regretably the infections carried on worsening. It was at this point that I paid for a specialist to visit who tested the water in the pond and tank as well as examining the two fish. He informed me that the conditions being kept were near perfect and that the fish were likely to have contracted the fish in the springtime, before I had ever made the purchase.Unfortunately after the pronosis, the specialist noted that both of our pets were set for an almost certain painful demise because there were signs of the infection on the body. Myself and partner are deeply saddened, not only because we have now spent hundreds of pounds but also because of the more than likely loss of two beautiful specimins. I am very concerned that a so called trusted professional would either not have known about this visual disease or know about it and choose to ignore it.This has been the worst purchase experience I have ever had by far and would go to great lengths not to recommend Koi Kabin. I am sure there are many customers out there that have purchased fish without incident, but all I can do is share my hugely negative experience. I will again admit with hindsight that I was naive not to have bought up the question about the nodule at the beginning of this road. All I can say is that I will try very hard never place myself in a similar situation again. Please, please do not trust this man or this business. If any assistance, care or responsibilty I may not be in this situation. I have been sold diseased animals and then abandoned and hope that nobody else out there is duped by this cheat. I would not be able to write this review if I didn't feel very strongly about by hugely negative experience.Alex, Leeds
