About us

The spirit of eating and drinking is deeply rooted in our history. Centuries past, travellers in need of sustenance or respite from the rigours of travelling on foot or by horse would stop at the nearest tavern. These early gathering places, primitive by today's standards, became popular haunts for tinkers, musicians, story-tellers and those wishing to enjoy the local hospitality.

Many different kinds of establishment have evolved since then, from the commoners' dives (so called because they were located underground), to hotels and the more aristocratic restaurants.

    "Have you booked?!!!" was the aggressive challenge that greeted us from the middle-aged angry woman on an attempt to have a meal at this sombre pub.And then a long shaking of the head without words, not even "I'm sorry but if you come back in an hour maybe we could fit you in"Looking around at the sullen , bored, waiting clientele we were very glad to leave and not return.Avoid like the plague!!!

    I took my brother and mother for a meal to this pub 2 weeks ago. I love clocks, but this is all it has to offer. The service was surley and very unwelcoming. I ordered 3 meals all of which were virtauly inedible. Hot and spicy prawns were supermarket battered pieces from the local supermarket and inedible. Liver and bacon was burnt, and fish and chips were sourced a long way from Cornwall. We did get a refund for some of the food. Only visit this pub if you like beer and clocks
