Overpriced wine and rude staff!!
02/02/2011 by ewanmc
Used to like this place - cosy and the food was always lovely, albeit somewhat over-priced. I'm not from Dundee but have worked in or lived near the city for more than 10 years. Very fond of the place but have never understood why restaurants there charge such nonsense prices - this is not Edinburgh or Glasgow dears.Anyway, the last time I was there I was with friends who ordered a couple of glasses of large wine each. When the bill came, they had been charged close to £25 between them for 4 wines. I queried the bill and they were being charged around £6,50 for the wine, per glass. Said to the waitress that we thought the price was very high and that their markup must have been considerable. She was extremely dismissive and frankly rude. So much so that a larger group of my friends, including some who were there that night, are currently deciding where to book for dinner in a few weeks. We are deliberately not booking Ciao Sorrento because of this bad experiences.High prices forgivable to a point. Rotten attitude is not. Avoid.

Damn cheek

We purchased two discount food vouchers thru a local radio station for this restaurant. Following all the booking criteria, we arrived at the place where upon we were told that one of the partners had made a mistake and that we could not use one of our vouchers. They were totally inflexible and it was extremely embarrasing to have a "stand up" arguement in the middle of a restaurant. Even though it was my wifes 50th birthday, we had no option to leave the place and find somewhere more welcoming, which fortunately we did. I will NEVER return to this restaurant and will actively pass on this bad experience story at every opportunity. I hope this is read by many and like me - will never darken their door. It was a thoroughly bad experience. PLEASE DO NOT GO THERE !!!

Warm, Welcoming and Wonderful

This is my all time favourite Italian Restaurant! i have never in my extensive travels found a better lasagne or more friendly atmosphere. The staff are so helpful and willing to recommend dishes while the pasta is so fresh it melts in the mouth. I have tried many dishes on the menu from steaks to pizza'a and it is consistently good. This eaterie really shines when you have a birthday party or celebration with many people to serve as they are quick, effiecient and help to make the experience more emjoyable. Do yourself a favour and check it out, it wont break the bank!

Little Favourite Italian Restaurant
04/06/2009 by Steve_Gourmet
Upon my initial view on June 3rd 2009, it's an understated Restaurant. Without looking for it you could easily walk right past. When I walked in I was one of 7 people in the 50 capacity faux-Italian decor. Waiting on was one lady, who was by no means busy. Service was precise, courteus and attentive. My first glass of house Red was beautifully accepted before my Olives and Aubergine in Cheese and Tomatoe Sauce which was delivered hot. It was an excellent aperitif to my choice of Main Meal, Veal with Bacon in a White Wine Cheese Sauce with seasonal vegetables (Carrot and broccolli). Whilst I was eating it was apparent the waitress was not too busy and I engaged conversation with her. We exchanged conversation for approximately 2 minutes - I then ordered my desert. I overheard the Waitress receiving a proper chastisement for speaking to me. The owner Thomasso berating that there were tables to be set etc - I was very distressed at hearing this, following what I consider to be familiarising with the clientel.Following this outburst I summarised that although the quality of the food was reasonable it was over priced and although the service was exceptional I'd probably not recommend this restaurant - I would however recommend anyone considering eating Italian be better served at 'The Italian' on Commercial Street a few hundred metres towards the Holiday Express Hotel.
