About us
An excellent all round education for boys and girls aged 3-18 set in 110 acres of beautiful Hertfordshire countryside inside the M25.
Educating boys and girls ages 3-18, Aldenham School in Elstree continues to be at the forefront of modern teaching whilst still maintaining the traditional values of a school founded over 415 years ago. This unique blend is greatly supported by the well established boarding ethos that benefits not only boarders but also day pupils, clearly recognised by recent Excellent inspection reports that acknowledge the dedication to each individual pupil via small class sizes and an 8:1 teacher pupil ratio. Aldenham prides itself on its pupils’ academic achievements, but also recognises the need for an excellent all round education. Whether in the classroom or Music School, on the stage or sports field, pupils are given the confidence and opportunity to develop their own talents.
High priority is placed on pastoral care, guidance and support within the Houses to ensure each pupil flourishes and realises his or her academic and personal potential.

Historic School: day & boarding - & wedding venue!
23/06/2009 by Angella
The lovely elegant gated entrance prepares you for the historic buildings including a romantic tower. A statue seen through the window inspired Eros of Piccadilly (by the same sculptor). We looked at the school souvenirs which included mugs, ties and books about the history of the school which was founded in 1597. Lots of arched, pointy topped gothic doorways lead to a lovely sloping lawn with willow trees for drinks receptions. I enjoyed the pink sparkling wine. The friendly chapel has an arched ceiling. In the chapel I heard an excellent, amusing sermon with lots of jokes and insights into character of what boys learn from when they are toddlers believing in Santa Claus to old men looking like Santa Claus. I was there at an annual lunch for the OA old boys/ association. In the bright white dining room fork prongs secured napkins. The waitresses were wearing white gloves. We ate succulent chicken for lunch with potatoes and parsnips. A dark chocolate was on my coffee cup's saucer. On a guided tour of the school I admired the library's elegant gallery. We shook hands with the affable headmaster (who you can see on their website). The website told me that you can have weddings in the school's historic buildings - chapel, dining room and the back lawn for your drinks. And plenty of parking on the grass.I don't know the wedding price, but the website reveals some interesting statistics. About 700 pupils are in the prep and senior school, more boys than girls. The termly fees for boarders are over £5,000 for seniors at the day school (aged 13+) and more than £8,000 for boarding. I suggest you check the website for the latest figures if you are interested. I noticed that EFL lessons are over £28 for a 40 minute lesson. I used to give one hour lessons. So I could teach three lessons in two hours, not just two. Maybe I should go back to tutoring. So you see, visiting the school and the website is a pleasure and reveals lots of handy information.Aldenham is just along the road from the prestigious Haberdashers' school known for its academic results. Aldenham gets boys entering its sixth form from many other schools. The reason is that school sixth forms at many top private schools have become like universities. You need top grades to get into them, even if you are already in the school. One could argue that certain schools are creaming off the top pupils. Aldenham takes pupils with grades at all standards and aims to help everybody achieve their potential.
